È l'augurio che il Papa ha rivolto alla comunità di studenti e docenti del Pontificio Collegio Filippino, ricevuti in udienza sabato mattina, 19 febbraio, nella Sala Clementina. Occasione dell'incontro è stato il cinquantesimo anniversario della fondazione del Collegio, avvenuta a opera di Giovanni XXIII il 7 ottobre 1961. Di seguito il testo del discorso del Pontefice. Your Eminence,Dear Brother Bishops and Priests,
I am pleased to greet you, the students and faculty of the Pontifical Filipino College in this year marking the fiftieth anniversary of its establishment by my predecessor Blessed John XXIII. I join you in giving thanks to God for all your College has contributed to the life of your fellow Filipinos both at home and abroad over the course of the last five decades.
As a house of formation located here, by the tombs of the great Apostles Peter and Paul, the Filipino College has fulfilled the mission entrusted to it in a variety of ways. Its first and most important task remains to assist students in their formation in the sacred sciences. This the College has accomplished well, as hundreds of priests have returned home with advanced degrees obtained from the various Pontifical universities and institutions in the city, and have gone on to serve the Church throughout the world, some of them with great distinction. Let me encourage you, the present generation of students at the College, to grow in faith, to strive for excellence in your studies, and to grasp every opportunity afforded you to attain spiritual and theological maturity, so that you will be equipped, trained, and stout-hearted for whatever awaits you in the future.
As you know, a complete priestly formation includes not only the academic: over and above the intellectual component offered to them here, the students of the Filipino College are also formed spiritually through the Church of Rome's living history and the shining example of her martyrs, whose sacrifice configures them perfectly to the person of Jesus Christ himself.I am confident that each of you will be inspired by their union with the mystery of Christ and embrace the Lord's call to holiness which demands from you as priests nothing less than the complete gift of your lives and labors to God. Doing so in the company of other young priests and seminarians gathered here from throughout the world, you will return home, like those before you, with a grateful and permanent sense of the Church of Rome's history, of her roots in the paschal mystery of Christ, and of her wonderful universality.
While you are in Rome, pastoral necessity should not be overlooked and so it is right, even for priests in studies, to consider the needs of those around them, including the members of the Filipino community living in Rome and its environs. In doing so, let the use of your time always strike a healthy balance between local pastoral concerns and the academic requirements of your stay here, to the benefit of all.
Finally, do not forget the affection of the Pope for you and for your homeland. I urge you all to return to the Philippines with an unshakeable affection of your own for the Successor of Peter and with the desire to strengthen and maintain the communion which binds the Church in charity around him. In this way, having completed your studies, you will surely be a leaven of the Gospel in the life of your beloved nation. Invoking the intercession of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, and as a pledge of grace and peace in the Lord, I willingly impart to all of you my Apostolic Blessing.

Eminenza,Cari Fratelli Vescovi e Sacerdoti,
Sono lieto di salutarvi, studenti e docenti del Pontificio Collegio Filippino, in quest'anno in cui ricorre il cinquantesimo anniversario della sua istituzione da parte del mio predecessore, il beato Giovanni XXIII. Mi unisco a voi nel rendere grazie a Dio per il contributo che il vostro Collegio ha dato alla vita dei vostri concittadini filippini sia in patria sia all'estero negli ultimi cinque decenni.
Come casa di formazione situata qui, presso le tombe dei grandi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo, il Collegio Filippino ha svolto la missione che gli è stata affidata in diversi modi. Il suo primo e più importante compito resta quello di assistere gli studenti nella loro formazione nelle scienze sacre. Il Collegio lo ha svolto bene, poiché centinaia di sacerdoti sono ritornati a casa con titoli di studio superiori ottenuti nelle diverse università e negli istituti pontifici della città e sono andati a servire la Chiesa nel mondo, alcuni distinguendosi. Permettetemi d'incoraggiarvi, voi che siete l'attuale generazione di studenti del Collegio, a crescere nella fede, a cercare l'eccellenza negli studi e a cogliere ogni opportunità che vi viene offerta per raggiungere la maturità spirituale e teologica, al fine di essere equipaggiati, preparati e intrepidi per qualunque cosa vi attenda in futuro.
Come sapete, una formazione sacerdotale completa non comprende solo l'aspetto accademico: al di là e al di sopra della componente intellettuale che viene loro offerta, gli studenti del Collegio Filippino vengono formati anche spiritualmente attraverso la storia vivente della Chiesa di Roma e il radioso esempio dei suoi martiri, il cui sacrificio li configura perfettamente alla persona di Gesù Cristo stesso.
Sono fiducioso che ognuno di voi verrà ispirato dalla loro unione con il mistero di Cristo e accoglierà la chiamata del Signore alla santità che, da voi come sacerdoti, esige niente di meno che il dono totale a Dio della vostra vita e del vostro lavoro. Facendo ciò in compagnia di altri giovani sacerdoti e seminaristi riuniti qui da tutto il mondo, ritornerete a casa, come quelli prima di voi, con un senso permanente e grato della storia della Chiesa di Roma, delle sue radici nel mistero pasquale di Cristo e della sua meravigliosa universalità.
Nel periodo della vostra permanenza a Roma, i bisogni pastorali non devono essere trascurati e quindi è giusto, anche per i sacerdoti che stanno studiando, tener conto delle necessità delle persone che li circondano, compresi i membri della comunità filippina che vive a Roma e nei dintorni. Nel dedicarvi a questo, fate in modo che nell'uso del vostro tempo vi sia sempre un sano equilibrio tra le preoccupazioni pastorali locali e le esigenze accademiche del vostro soggiorno, a beneficio di tutti.
Infine, non dimenticate l'affetto che il Papa nutre per voi e per la vostra terra natale. Esorto tutti voi a ritornare nelle Filippine con affetto incrollabile per il Successore di Pietro e con il desiderio di rafforzare e conservare la comunione che unisce la Chiesa intorno a lui nella carità. In tal modo, dopo aver completato gli studi, certamente sarete un lievito del Vangelo nella vita della vostra amata nazione. Invocando l'intercessione di Nostra Signora della Pace e del Buon Viaggio, come pegno di grazia e pace nel Signore, imparto volentieri a tutti voi la mia benedizione apostolica.
